Wartenberg Pinwheel

One of my favourite things in my gear bag has to be my vast collection of pinwheels. To me personally, no sensation play is complete without a bit of pinwheel action. Before I get going I prefer to place my Wartenberg pinwheels in a glass of ice water or even directly in the freezer while I torture my victim with a bit of impact play. If you’ve ever wondered how to use a pinwheel in a BDSM setting, Mistress Selena is here to give you some prodigious pinwheel pointers.

When looking to begin your Wartenberg wheel collection you’ll need to think about what material they’re made from. The most popular pinwheel material will be stainless steel. It’s body safe and is not prone to rust. It can also be sterilised for use with more than one person. There are also plastic pinwheels available, usually described as disposable. These are great if you are unsure about investing in a metal pinwheel or just want a one time toy. They’re also great to have on hand if you don’t have a way to sterilise your pinwheels between players.

How many wheels should you go for? If you’re unsure just for for the single wheel pinwheel. It’s just what you need when you’re just getting started, it’s cost effective and they are the most popular style pinwheel with stockists. Many pinwheel purists will tell you that the single wheel pinwheel’s intense power is driven through each individual pin of the single wheel rather than divided between the pins of many wheels. This makes the prickly sensation of a single wheel pinwheel even more substantial.

How to use a Wartenberg pinwheel

There are so many different ways to use a pinwheel. They are excellent sensation play toys but they can be used in cock and ball torture, nipple torture or tickle torture. Pinwheels are great on their own or when combined with other toys and textures.

  1. As Nipple Torture
Pinwheels are a great way to toy with tender nipples. Once the blood rushes back into the nipples after clamps have been removed, the nipples are highly sensitive and the intensity of anything you do to them will be multiplied. Running a super spiney pinwheel over an especially sensitive nipple will be sure to cause delicious cries and moans.
  2. As Cock and Ball Torture
A pair of bollocks nicely framed in a sturdy humbler is the perfect canvas for a trusty pinwheel. The tender testicle almost shrivels away from the powerful points of the pinwheel. The same goes for a pathetic penis. Watch his cock shrink away to try and get away.
  3. Over Labia and the Clitoris
Take care if you’ve got a squirmy wormy under your command, when you run the pins of a Wartenberg pinwheel over the delicate intimate tissue of her lady garden, it may make her leap right into the spines. Some women love the pussy pinwheel action so much may even orgasm from the anticipation and intense sensation.
  4. After Impact Play
My personal favourite! Impact play brings fluid to the surface of the skin making it intensely sensitive to the touch. Run a pinwheel over this bright red flesh and get ready for wiggles and whimpers. Alternate between the paddled and non-paddled skin to add a bit of contrast to your play.
  5. Temperature Play
Before you play with your pinwheels try sticking them in the freezer or in a glass of ice water. The cold steel mixed with sharp and pointy sensations are incredible on freshly flogged skin.
  6. Tickle Torture
Roll a pinwheel over sensitive ticklish zones such as the sides, underarms or feet for a prickly tickle scene. Experiment with different body parts to keep your bottom guessing. Elbows, necks, stomachs, spines and the back of the knees make excellent places to play.
  7. Roll or Scratch?
The most obvious use of a pinwheel would be to roll the wheel across the skin. You can also prick the skin with a single pin or drag the pinwheel sideways for an effective scratching tool

How to care for a Wartenberg wheel

Keep your metal pinwheels in tip top condition by lubricating the axle periodically with some WD-40, this will keep your pinwheels rolling smooth. Before play time you can boil your pinwheels to sterilise them. Other methods include wiping them down with isopropyl alcohol or even using an autoclave to make sure your pinwheel is pristine. If you accidentally break the skin during play time you want to reduce the risk of infection and prevent fluid transfer.

When play time is over or you’re going to use them on another player, wipe your pinwheels down with alcohol or antibacterial cleaner and dry thoroughly. You can boil them again before storage but just remember to do it again before you play. Take care when storing your pinwheels as you don’t want to accidentally prick your fingers when you reach in your bag. A pencil case or a specially designed leather case should prevent unwanted pricks.

Aftercare

After playing with pinwheels the skin will be covered in tiny red dots and may become itchy. You can give your submissive some ibuprofen and rub a bit of antihistamine cream or lotion onto the skin. If the skin in question is on the genitals, try a cool compress to help alleviate any pain or itching. If the skin was broken and there is bleeding involved treat it as you would any minor cut or scratch. Clean the skin with rubbing alcohol or antibacterial soap and put pressure on the puncture until the bleeding stops. Unless you really jammed a pinwheel into their skin the wound should heal fine on its own.
